من أهم أعمال السيد محمد باقر الصدر، حيث يقع في صلب مشروعه الفكري النهضوي، لكونه وثيق الصلة بكتابيه (فلسفتنا) واقتصادنا) وهما الشقيقان الفكريان كما يصفهما. به التأكيد والبرهنة على أن الإسلام هو النظام الفكري القادر على بلورة وصياغة النظام الاجتماعي يحاول الكتاب في جزأ الأصلح للمجتمعات الإسلامية المعاصرة وهذا يعني أن الإسلام هو السبيل لنهضة هذه المجتمعات وتقدمها، الأمر الذي يقتضي-حسب قول المؤلف-دراسة واستيعاب المبدأ الإسلامي في فلسفته عن الحياة والكون وفي فلسفته عن الاجتماع والاقتصاد وفي تشريعاته ومناهجه وبهذا يعتبر الكتاب تلخيصا دقيقا للمشروع الإصلاحي عند السيد باقر كتبه بقلمه واختاره لجمهوره الصدر.
