كتاب في الرحلات هو عبارة عن رحلة العلامة شهاب الدين محمود بن عبدالله الألوسي إلى الأستانة والتي قام بها في القرن الثالث عشر الهجري وسجل خلالها ملاحظاته والمواقف التي تعرض لها ولقاءاته التي جرت له وغير ذلك ولقد أتى على النص الرحلي حين واستوى فيه جنسا أدبيا محكم البناء وذلك بما تهيأ له من تراكم مجموعة من النصوص الرحلية الشامخة رسخت جملة من الضوابط والمعايير الأجناسية التي صنعت للنوع الرحلي فرادته وتميزه.
