يبحث هذا الكتاب في تطورات السياسة الأمريكية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط التي تعصف بها تحولات جذرية لم تعرفها هذه المنطقة منذ الحرب العالمية الثانية على الأقل، فالأنظمة العربية الاستبدادية من جهة راحت تتساقط، لا بفعل انقلابات عسكرية أو انقلابات من داخل القصر هذه المرة، بل بفعل انتفاض الشارع العربي وكسر قيود الخوف التي كبلته على مدى عقود والإمبراطورية الأمريكية من جهة أخرى، التي اعتادت تحمي تلك الأنظمة حماية لمصالحها، باتت عاجزة عن توفير الدعم لأحجارها في رقعة الشرق الأوسط، فخوض الولايات المتحدة أكثر من حرب فاشلة على هذه الرقعة كان كفيلاً باستنزاف عسكرها.
