تعتبر مدينة تريم بمحافظة حضرموت الجمهورية اليمنية من أهم المدن العلمية والحضارية في اليمن خصوصا في العالم الإسلامي بوجه عام حيث تأتي في طليعة البلاد التي يقصدها الباحث عن تاريخ المنطقة وحضارتها وعلومها والتحولات السياسية التي مرت عليها الغزوات التي تعرضت لها والحكام الذين تداولوا الحكم فيها وإذا كان الثقل السياسي والاقتصادي في وادى حضرموت وساحلها ظل يدور في العصور المتأخرة مع اختيارات كل دولة حاكمة لعاصمتها وبين تريم وشبام وسيئون وقيدون في الوادي وبين الشحر والمكلا في الساحل فإن مدينة تريم احتفظت بمكانتها العلمية والثقافية وكانت ولا تزال حاضرة العلم والدعوة إلى الله تنبت الأرض الخصبة الزرع المثمر.
