الكتاب يسد فراغا قائما في النقد العربي الحديث، خاصة فيما يتعلق بمسألة الساتيرا، ويعتبر دراسة مميزة وفريدة من نوعها، وهو الكتاب الذي نال عنه صاحبه الدكتور هيبي درجة الدكتوراة (Ph.D) بتقدير امتياز (Summa Cum Laude) من جامعة حيفا. وحول موضوع الكتاب، أكد مؤلفه في محاضرة قدمها في كلية القاسمي \"أن السخرية في الرواية العربية هي انعكاس للواقع الذي عاشه الناس خلال الحرب الأهلية في لبنان من آلام ومآسي\"، مبينا \"التناقضات في النص الروائي لعدد من الروائيين والروائيات من ناحية الأسلوب والمضمون والعناصر الفنية الروائية الأخرى التي يتضمنها هذا الاصدار القيم والجدير بأن يضاف الى مكتباتنا الخاصة والعامة\".
