هذا الكتاب محاولة للجمع بين نوعين من المعرفة في دراسة فن الكتابة الصحفية المعرفة النظرية بما تعنيه من إحاطة شاملة بكل المؤلفات التي كتبت في الموضوع سواء كانت بالعربية أم بالإنجليزية مؤلفة أم مترجمة ثم استخلاص الأسس أو القوانين العلمية التي يقوم عليها كل فن من فنون الكتابة الصحفية وذلك من خلال استخدام المنهج العلمي في البحث والمعرفة العملية بما تعنيه من إحاطة بالتفاصيل الدقيقة للممارسة الصحفية ذلك أن فن الكتابة الصحفية من أكثر الفنون عرضة للتطور أو قبولا له وإذا كانت أسس أو قوانين فن الكتابة الصحفية ثابتة فإن تطبيقات هذه الأسس أو القوانين متغيرة فهي تتطور بنفس السرعة التي تتطور بها مهنة الصحافة بإعتبارها أكثر المهن التصاقا بالحياة الاجتماعية للإنسان ولا خلاف في أن أبرز قانون يحكم الحياة الاجتماعية الإنسانية هو قانون التطور.
