\"فلسفة الفكاهة\"، من تأليف الباحث الناقد الإنجليزي٬ تيري إيجلتون، والذي يشير في مقدمته للكتاب إلي أن\"الفكاهة هي تسلية مجانية للعقل تريحنا من سلسلة الأفكار الروتينية، وتخفف من استبدادها، وتمنعنا من أن نصبح عبيدا لها، ويعمم البعض بتهور الكيفية التي تحافظ بها الكوميديا على استبداد النظام أو الموقف بعينه، لأنها تجعله محتملا وتحث على تعبير الكوميديون الحقيقيون عما يخجل منه الآخرون، مدركين لحقيقة ما يؤلمهم أو يخيفهم. يشار إلي أن \"إيجلتون\"، هو أحد أهم الباحثين والكتاب في النظرية الأدبية، ويعد من أكثر النقاد الأدبيين تأثيرا بين المعاصرين في بريطانيا، وهو أستاذ الأدب الإنجليزي حاليا في جامعة لانسيستر، وهو أستاذ زائر في جامعة أيرلندا الوطنية في جالواي.
