هذا الكتاب هو لتعليم لغة الإشارة للتواصل بين المعاقين سمعيا ونطقا، أو بينهم وبين محيطهم، يقول المؤلف في مقدمة الكتاب يا ترى كيف يتكلمون بأيديهم ؟ كيف يفهمون على بعضهم بعضا؟ هم يتكلمون ولكن عن ماذا يتكلمون ؟ وهناك أسئلة كثيرة وقد تكون حائرة بالنسبة لنا ولغة الإشارة كان جدل العالم فمنهم من قال هي \"رموز وليست لغة\" والبعض الآخر قال \"هي أوضاع توضع في أنحاء الجسم\" ومنهم من قال \"هي لغة مثل الإسبانية والعربية وغيرها\" وإذ تحمل بداخلها الكلمات والقواعد والإيماءات، فهناك الكثير من القضايا حول تلك اللغة لكنني أقف مذهولا حينما تمتلك تلك اللغة اللهجة بداخلها.
