لما كان كتاب \"أساس البلاغة\" للزمخشري (ت 538هـ) نسيج وحده بين معجمات العربية -وإن كان معجما موجزا يفتقر إلى مزيد من التقصي والإستيعاب- فمؤلفه قد تخير ما وقع في عبارات المبدعين وانطوى على إستعمالات المفلقين أو ما جاز وقوعه فيها وانطواؤه تحتها من التراكيب التي تملح وتحسن ومن خصائصه الإستدلال على مناهج التركيب والتأليف ومعرفة مدارج الترتيب والترصيف من خلال سوق الكلمات متناسقة مع الإستكثار من نوابغ الكلم الهادية إلى مراشد حر المنطق وفيه إفراد المجاز عن الحقيقة والكناية عن التصريح.
