يتحدث الكتاب عن الفلسفة التحليلية التي دعا إليها مور وفريجة ورسل فلسفة اللغة الاعتيادية، التي تبناها فيها بعد لودفيج فتغنشتاين وبها تحولت الدراسات اللسانية من لغة مثالية عالية إلى لغة يومية وتحول بحث الفيلسوف من بحث في اللغة إلى بحث في بيان الأفكار المبهمة على وفق استعلامات لغوية واضحة. هذه الأفكار قادت أوستن وسيرل وكرايس إلى إنتاج نظريات تداولية في أفعال الكلام والاستلزامات الحوارية والخطابية وتراثنا العربي يزخر بأصول العمليات التخاطبية التي بنيت عليها جميع هذه النظريات. ولما كانت الدراسات الأصولية قد اعتنت بالنصوص القرآنية والروائية بوصفها الخطاب الصادر عن المولى عز وجل، لغرض استنباط الأحكام الشرعية صار لزاما على الأصوليين أن يبحثوا عن استعلامات اللغة وأن أهم أداة من أدوات الأصوليين هي اللغة.
