يوضح هذا الكتاب أن الخطاب القرآني قد أحدث نقلة نوعية في لغة تخاطب النساء بالطريقة نفسها التي خوطب فيها الرجال، لذلك فقد عبر عن وعي جديد دخل فيه الخطاب في حالة صراع مع الوعي الذي تمثله اللغة، وذلك وفق بنية مركبة من أرضية سياسية وفكر ديني في الثقافة العربية. وبقدر ما كانت كفة ميزان هذا الصراع تميل نحو الوعي الجديد، كان وضع المرأة يتنامى، بينما كان الصراع في عصور التأخر والانحطاط يميل ناحية الوعي التقليدي، فيتدهور وضع المرأة، إذ يتم إخفاء \"النساء شقائق الرجال\"، ويعلن عنهن كـ \"ناقصات عقل ودين\"، وتستدعى قصة خروج آدم من الجنة في صيغتها التوراتية، فتتوحد حواء مع الحية أو الشيطان، ويقف تراث التخلف عند \"كيدهن عظيم\"، ويصبح الوأد داخل اللباس الأسود، إلا من فتحتين للعينين، وهو المعادل الموضوعي لعملية الدفن على سطح الأرض.
