يتناول الكتاب دراسة العلاقات الفرثية الرومانية التي لم تنال الاهتمام الكافي ومايكتنفها من الغموض. ويبحث في تفاصيل تلك العلاقات ودقائقها في دراسة مستقلة لعلها تسد الثغرات التي أغفلها أغلب المتخصصون في التاريخ الروماني والايراني. وفي الواقع أن الفرثيون استطاعوا تكوين أول دولة إيرانية كبرى بعد انهيار الامبراطورية الأخمينية، وأهمية هذه الدولة لا يمكن في أنها كانت سببا في انهيار الامبراطورية السلوقية وإنما في تأخر الغزو الروماني للشرق قرابة قرنيين من الزمان.
