يتناول الكتاب عشرة أبحاث / فصول موزعة على ثلاثة أقسام تناولت في القسم الأول منها المنطلقات المنهجية لقراءة فلسفة فوكو قراءة مثلثة الأبعاد من خلال التصنيف، التأويل والنقد ؛ وخصصت القسم الثاني للسياسة وعلاقة السلطة بالقانون وعلاقة العلم وعلاقتها بالسلطة الإنضباطية مجسدة في الأنظمة العنصرية والشمولية، وأفردت بالسياسة، والسياسة الحيوية تحديدا القسم الثالث لمسألة القيم كما تجلت في مواقف فوكو من الدين والثقافة والزهد والتنوير وما بعد الحداثة... إلخ، وكذلك موقفه من الأخلاق وإرتباطه الوثيق بمسائل الجنس والسلطة والذات ودعوته إلى ما اصطلح عليه بالموقف الأخلاقي في حدوده الدنيا، مع التطرق ربما ولأول مرة بالعربية إلى موقفه من الجمال عموما ونظرته إلى الفن والأشكال الفنية.
