للشريعة الإسلامية، كغيرها من النظم، خصائص تمتاز بها من حيث نشأتها وتطورها والأسس التي بنيت عليها والمصادر التي تستمد منها والقواعد التي جاءت بها. لذلك تناول الكتاب هذا الموضوع لينير الطريق أمام الدارس لها ويجعله يسير تمهيد يعطيه فكرة إجمالية وعامة، في تحصيلها وتفهم مسائلها على بصيرة ويرسم له صورة واضحة المعالم يرجع إليها إذا ما اشتبه عليه الأمر أو اختلط، تمهيد يسمى في الاصطلاح القانوني الوضعي المدخل لدراسة القانون أو فلسفة علم القانون وبذلك يكون المدخل إلى الشريعة الإسلامية مفتاح دراسة هذه الشريعة من حيث التعريف بها وبمصطلحاتها وبيان أقسامها وطبيعتها والكشف عن خصائصها وأسسها ومقاصدها وأنواع مصادرها واستخلاص قواعدها وأنظمتها.
