إن قضية العنف ضد المرأة منتشرة في الوطن العربي بغض النظر عن أشكال هذا العنف وأساليبه فقد يكون شكل هذا العنف لفظيا (شتما) أو بدنيا (ضربا) أو اعتداء جنسيا على الأطفال الإناث سواء كانوا في الأسرة أو خارجها وقد ربطت الدراسات العربية المتوفرة حول مشكلة العنف ضد المرأة بين العنف ضد المرأة بشكل عام والعنف ضد الزوجة بشكل خاص وبينت أن العديد من هذه المتغيرات والأسباب في المجتمع العربي لا تختلف كثيرا عن أسباب العنف في المجتمعات الأخرى ولقد حث ديننا الإسلامي الحنيف على أحترام المرأة وفرض لها من الحقوق ما يحفظ كرامتها الإنسانية.
