هذا الكتاب \"أنثربولوجيا الأسطورة والدين\" يحاول أن يشرح هذه المفاهيم بصورة تحليلية فهو مدخل في تحديد مفهوم الدين كان مفيدا في كثير من الحالات لتجنب مشكلة تقدير الإعتقاد أهو حقيقي واقعي أم أنه ملازم للتدين وعودا على بدء فإن الدين ظهر من خلال الأساطير نظرا لكون الأساطير تخدم أغراضا مختلفة كثيرة وكان الغرض الأول تفسير ما هو غير قابل للتفسير فمنذ بداية وجود الجنس البشري عملت الأساطير لتكون تبريرات لغوامض الحياة الأساسية أسئلة من قبيل من صنع العالم؟ كيف سينتهي؟ من أين جئنا؟ من كان أول إنسان؟ ما الذي يحدث حين نموت؟ لماذا تنتقل الشمس عبر السماء كل يوم؟ لماذا يكبر القمر ويتضاءل؟ لماذا لدينا دورات زراعية سنوية وتغيرات موسمية؟ من يتحكم بعالمنا؟ وكيف نستطيع التأثير في تلك الكائنات بحيث تكون حيواتنا أسهل.
