هذا الكتاب يتعلق بالمدخل لفهم الدماغ وهو معرفة تركيبه التشريحي والنسيجي ووظائفه الأساسية، ويتضمن ستة أبواب : في الباب الأول ثلاثة فصول تبدأ بمقدمة عن الخلية بصورة عامة، تراكيبها وكيف أن (د ن أ) يخزن المعلومات الوراثية التي توجه تكوين البروتينات وكافة فعاليات الخلية، ثم في الفصل الثاني توضيح بنية الخلية العصبية (العصبون) وأهم خواصها وإمتداداتها كذلك الخلايا الدبقية السائدة ومكونات النسيج العصبي سواء في المادة السنجابية أو البيضاء والألياف العصبية وأنواعها والنهايات الطرفية للأعصاب الحسية والحركية، وفي الفصل الثالث عرض لكيفية تولد وإنتقال النبضة العصبية وما هي المشابك العصبية وأنواع المركبات الكيمياوية التي تعمل كمرسلات عصبية.
