يتناول الكتاب مختارات أدبية، ضمت معظم ما كتبه المتوكل طه عن مدينة القدس، من شعر ونثر ومقالات. وكان قد صدر للشاعر المتوكل ثلاثة كتب عن القدس هي ؛ نصوص إيليا وكتاب يبوس والثقافة والمقاومة والقدس، إضافة إلى ما أنتجه من قصائد نشرت لاحقا في ديوانه مملكة اليمام، علاوة على شهادته التي نشرها حول علاقة الشعر بالقدس، جنبا إلى جنب عدد من النصوص التي توزعت في عدد من مؤلفاته منها ؛ سرديات الجنون وعباءة الورد وكتاب لون الروح. وكتاب \"نصوص المدينة\" الذي جاء في ثلاثمئة صفحة ، قد أنجز لوحة غلافه الفنان التشكيلي المغربي عبد الله الحريري.
