من الصعب إذا ما اطلع الباحث على كتب التربية أن يخرج بتقسيم واضح لهذه الطرق، إذ يختلف الكتاب في وجهات نظرهم في التقسيم، فنجد أن البعض يقسم الطرق وفقا لأنواع من الدروس وبخص كل نوع بطريقة مناسبة له ويحاول البعض الآخر أن يبني التقسيم على العمليات الفكرية التي تستلزمها كل طريقة ويضع الدروس تحت الطرق التي تناسبها ويحاول فريق ثالث أن يقسم الطرق وفق ما يغلب على طريق بعنيها من صفات ويخلص البعض هذه الطرق بعضها ببعض بناء على خلط في الأساس يبني عليه التقسيم ويزيد الخلط إذا ما بدأنا نفكر في الوسائل المختلفة التي تستخدم في كل قسم وكل طريقة من هذه الطرق : كالقصص والوصف والشرح.
