تدور أحداث الرواية حول بيت أندلسي قديم عاش فيه العشاق والقتلة والملائكة والشياطين والنبلاء والسفلة والشهداء والخونة تريد السلطات تهديمه لاستغلال مساحته الأرضية لبناء برج عظيم برج الأندلس وساكن البيت (مراد باسطا) المتبقي من السلالة المنقرضة يرفض فكرة التهديم لأنها في النهاية محو للذاكرة الجمعية البيت شيده أحد الموريسكيين (غاليلو ألروخو) الفارين من الأندلس في القرن السادس عشر وفاء لحبيبته (سلطانة بالأثيوس) يستولي عليه القراصنة الأتراك بعد عملية إغتصاب قاسية ضد صاحبته وفي فترة الإحتلال الفرنسي يتحول البيت إلى أول دار بلدية في الجزائر المستعمرة بعد الإستقلال يتكالب على البيت الذين تسميهم الرواية ورثاء الدم الجدد فيحول إلى كاباريه ثم إلى ماخور مقنع ومركز لعقد صفقات تهريب المخدرات والأسلحة وغيرها.
