لا يخفى أن الفنون الإسلامية هي نتاج حضارة كبيرة أضاءت بنورها العالم من أقاصي الشرق الى أقاصي الغرب من المعمورة رغم إدعاءات بعض المستشرقين بأنها صورة متأخرة من الفنون التي سبقت الإسلام، كالفنون البيزنطية والساسانية. نشأ الفن الإسلامي في بلاد قامت على أرضها حضارات قديمة عريقة تفاعلت أواصر فنونها مع إبداعات الفنان المسلم فأثرت في هذه الإبداعات وتأثرت بها ، وأصبحت تمثل جسد الفن الجديد الذي يتنفس بروح إسلامية كونت شخصيته المتميزة التي أثرت بعدئذ في فنون العالم الشرقي والغربي متجلية في فنون العمارة والرسم والنحت وفنون أخرى كالتحف المعدنية والزجاجية وفن الخط العربي وزخرفة النقش العربي.
