تعد الزكاة أداة اقتصادية وركيزة من ركائز النظام الاقتصادي الإسلامي لأنها تحرك الأموال وتحول دون اكتنازها وتدفع بها إلى مجالات الاستثمار والتنمية، لقد نجحت بعض البلدان في تحقيق التنمية الاقتصادية إلا أنها أخفقت في الربط بينها وبين التنمية الاجتماعية، فبعد التطبيقات الاقتصادية للنظم الرأسمالية في الجزائر واللجوء إلى المؤسسات النقدية والمالية الدولية لإعادة جدولة ديونها الخارجية الشيء الذي حال دون تحقيق أهدافها والمتمثلة في التنمية الشاملة وما يزال إلى يومنا هذا النموذج الرأسمالي لم يحقق غايته الاجتماعية أو الاقتصادية، ففي كل مرة تظهر الأزمات المالية وآخرها الأزمة المالية.
