تناول الكتاب أن الاقتصاد الإداري من المواضيع الحيوية والهامة التي تهم الاقتصاديين والإداريين على حد سواء لأنها تربط بين علم الاقتصاد من جهة وعلم الإدارة من جهة أخرى ولا يقتصر الاهتمام بالاقتصاد الإداري على هذه الجهات وإنما يهم كل من أصحاب المشروعات والدولة والمستهلكين حيث أن تحليل عمل ً لكون الاقتصاد الإداري يهتم بتحليل سلوك المشروعات له أهمية وأثر كبير على هذه الفئات. ونظرا المنشآت كان لا بد من التعرض إلى النظرية الاقتصادية كأداة أساسية في اتخاذ القرارات الإدارية إضافة إلى النظرية الإدارية وما تحويه من مبادئ ومتطلبات للقيام بوظائف الإدارة من تخطيط وتنظيم وتوجيه ورقابة وما ينطوي تحتها من مهام خاصة في إطار اتخاذ القرارات ضمن البيئات المختلفة.
