يطرح الكاتب في ثنايا هذا الكتاب تصوره العام حول الفكر الزيدي باعتباره الفكر الديني والدنيوي في حياة اليمنيين منذ ألف عام وقد تكون ذاك رئيسيا من اليمين ولعب دورا كبيرا الذي حكم جزءا التصور لدى الكاتب من خلال مراجعته للكتب الزيدية بالإضافة إلى ذلك فقد تخلل الكتاب ما تكون لدى الباحث من حصيلة فكرية جارت نتيجة حوارات حول الموضوعات مرتبطة بالتراث الفكري الإسلامي لا سيما ما تكون فيه على أرض اليمن وتشكل مع معطيات واقعها الفريد وقد اختار من تلك الحصيلة لهذا الكتاب فصولا أربعة الأول عن الزيدية والثاني عن المعتزلة والثالث عن الإسماعيلية والرابع والأخير عن علمين من أعلام السلفية المتحررة في اليمن المقبلي والشوكاني.
