يشتمل الكتاب خمسة فصول حيث تضمن الفصل الأول الدافعية تعريفها وأنواعها ووظائفها وأسسها ومكوناتها وطرق قياسها اما الفصل الثاني فقد تطرق إلى تفسير الدافعية من وجهة نظر مدارس ونظريات علم النفس، إضافة الى التعرف على التطبيقات التربوية لكل مدرسة ونظرية وتوسع الفصل الثالث في دافعية الإنجاز من حيث مفهومها ومكوناتها والنظريات التي فسرت دافعية الانجاز وتطبيقاتها اما الفصل الرابع فقد تناول بالتفصيل دافعية التعلم من حيث مفهومها وأهميتها والعوامل المؤثرة فيها ووظائفها وقوانينها ونظرياتها والتطبيقات التربوية لكل نظرية وأخيرا تحدث الفصل الخامس عن الدوافع وبعض المتغيرات ذات العلاقة من مثل الدافعية والتدين.
