وبالعودة إلى الكتاب فإن محتواه يكاد يكون مجهولا قبل مائة سنة بقليل، وكانت الأعمال المصورة فيه خارج نطاق التصور قبل تلك الفترة ومجردة من أية قيمة جمالية. فقبل خمسين عاما مجهولة، وكان فن بلاد ما بين النهرين الذي سبق الفن الآشوري، يعني بكل بساطة، فن سومر أرضا \"لكش\" المسمى بالفن الكلداني، ذلك الفن الذي لم يكن أحد، سوى التوراة، قد اهتم به، إلا قلة من الاختصاصيين. وحتى إلى وقت متأخر؛ أي سنة 1930، كان الثلثان من الأعمال التي صورت في هذا الكتاب ما يزالان غير مكتشفين وغير معروفين. من هنا يمكن القول بأن لهذا الكتاب أهميته الفنية والفكرية أيضا والتاريخية والاجتماعية إلى حد كبير فالناظر إلى ما احتواه في هذا الكتاب من صور بإمكانه التأمل أكثر لتتكون لديه دراسة فنية اجتماعية فكرية تاريخية عن حضارة سومر العريقة.
