شكلت عودة \"آرئيل شارون\" إلى واجهة الأحداث في 6 شباط 2001 بعد فشل \"إيهود براك\" في الانتخابات الإسرائيلية منعطفا هاما في تاريخ المنطقة كلها، وليس فقط في إسرائيل؛ إذ أصبح \"شارون\" لأول مرة رئيسا للحكومة الإسرائيلية، محققا بذلك طموحا طالما داعب خياله على مدار ثمانية عشر عاما خلت، استغلها في فرض حقائق على الأرض تخدم معتقداته السياسية والأمنية مستفيدا من المناصب الحكومية التي تبوأها؛ هذه المعتقدات التي تقوم على مبدأ توفير الأمن لإسرائيل والحيلولة دون قيام دولة فلسطينية مستقلة.
