إن هذا الكتاب هو خلاصة ما تذكرته وليس كل ذكريات حياتي، فليس بإمكاني أن أدعي أن هذا الكتاب يمثل كل تاريخ مراحل حكم السلطان عبد الحميد الثاني، كما لا يمكنني القول أنه يشمل كل ذكريات حياتي، فقد كانت نيتي منذ البداية أن أنقل للأجيال ما تذكرته من أحداث مهمة مرت على خلال وجودي في القصر فقط بكل مصداقية وأمانة وأن يكون كتابي هذا مصدرا للمؤرخين الساعين إلى دراسة عهد السلطان عبد الحميد الثاني بشكل منهجي صحيح.
