تعتبر ظاهرة الغموض في الشعر من القضايا ذات الأبعاد المتعددة ؛ وذلك لتعدد المحاور المتصلة بها. فظاهرة الغموض ظاهرة تاريخية عالمية، تلعب التحولات السياسية والفكرية والثقافية والاجتماعية-دورا مهما في ظهورها. فالعلاقات التي تنشأ بين ثقافات الأمم غالبا ما تؤدي إلي تغير في الأساليب الإبداعية الراسخة الأقدام ؛ فتنشأ نتيجة لذلك أساليب إبداعية تحمل بين طياتها الجدة والغرابة. وقد ظهرت قضية الغموض في الشعر العربي لأول مرة عندما انفتح المجتمع العربي علي ثقافات الأمم والشعوب ؛ وبخاصة الثقافة اليونانية ذات المنحي الفلسفي الذي أثر في مجمل الفكر العربي، وكان الشعراء في تلك الفترة من أكثر الفئات التي تأثرت بالفلسفة والمنطق اليونانيين، فانعكس ذلك علي تجربتهم الشعرية التي أثارت جدلا واسعا حول مشروعيتها.
