ليس كتاب (زمن البدايات: المكان ساردا أو جمالياته) سيرة ذاتية لشاعر، أو إعلامي في مكان تحول بفعل الحب، والانتماء... إلى جزء محاريث للروح ؛ فتصنيف ما جاء فيه ضمن السيرة الذاتية قد يكون في غاية الصعوبة؛ لأن خليل عيلبوني ينظر إلى كل ما يحيط به، فيراه جميلا. يروي قصة حب لا تنتهي... وكأن المكان نفسه هو الذي يسرد جمالياته، ولكن من خلال ذاكرة عيلبوني، وليس يعني هذا غياب صوت السارد الحقيقي؛ فنحن نجده يتحدث عن نفسه متأثرا بما يجري حوله، ومؤثرا به. ومن هنا، تأتي أهمية الكتاب ؛ فهو يتحدث عن زمن يمتد منذ عام 1971، وهو زمن بدء حياته في أبو ظبي إعلاميا؛ إذ كان عيلبوني أول مذيع أعلن تأسيس الاتحاد، وقيام دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة عبر إذاعة أبو ظبي.
