جون قاي يوه لجأ للأدب للتعبير عن مشاعره وأحساسيه وانفعالاته مع واقعه الجديد، واستطاع خلال فترة وجوده في المنفى، وقد تغمره الروح الشاعرية، تأليف مجموعة من القصائد والأشعار، يتذكر فيها اللحظات التي عاشها في وطنه، وروائع مسقط رأسه، والحب الذي يحمله لوالدته وتضحيات الرفاق والأصدقاء، وقد قام لاحقا بتجميع هذه القصائد وإصدارها في ديوان حمل اسم (أحلام المنفى) صدرت عنها نسخة مترجمة باللغة العربية عن دار رفيقي للطباعة والنشر بجوبا في 2017، ونقلها للعربية الصحفي والشاعر دينقديت أيوك، ويقع في (93) صفحة من القطع المتوسط، متضمنة (18) قصيدة، ويقدم فيها الشاعر أفكاره وتأملاته وأحلامه وهمومه وأحساسيه العاطفية بعيدا عن أرض الوطن، فهو يتذكر الأمومة الدافئة ومحبة الأم وتربيتها ومن ثم رحيلها المرير، وأشواقه لبلدته الواقعة على النهر حيث النساء السمروات الباسقات ورجالها السمر فارعي الطول.
