يناقش \"ثامر عباس\" في كتابه هذا \"الهوية الملتبسة\" مفاهيم عديدة تحيط بالشخصية العراقية، منها كما دل العنوان الفرعي إشكالية الوعي بالذات، حيث يقول إذا كان مفهوم (الهوية الوطنية) يشترط مسبقا حصول تراكم ناجز في مقومات (الشخصية الإجتماعية) على وفق مستلزمات الضرورة التعاقبية، فإن هذه الأخيرة بالمقابل لا تشترط مثل هذه الضرورة لكي يكتمل نصابها وتتبلور بنيتها، إلا وفقا للسياق التزامني الذي يجمع بينها وبين المفهوم الأول.
