في روايته هذه كما في أعماله الأخرى يستخدم عزيز نيسين الأسلوب الساخر لتعرية الفساد والمفاهيم المتخلفة العفنة. وهنا يركز على تشريح سلوك الأسر المسماة عريقة وأرائها في الحياة. وبعد أن نضحك طويلا ونسخر معه من أبطاله يلفت انتباهنا إلى أن الضعف والمسكنة لن يجديا الإنسان الوادع نفعا. وحدهما القدرة على الفعل، وامتلاك المفاهيم الإنسانية ما يعطيانه القيمة ويرفعانه عاليا. لذا يدفع ببطل روايته المغفل إلى نهاية الغفلة المذلة ليستيقظ بعدها تاركا زيف الماضي ويعود بقوة وروح جديدتين تفاجئان من كانوا يستهزئون به وتوقعانهم في إرباك محير.
