يتحدث \"لبيب\" في كتابه أنه في عنبر الإيراد يجتمع المساجين الجدد مع السجناء الخطرين وتصبح التسلية الوحيدة هي سماع الحكايات وحين يبدأ العقال في سرد حكايته يلتف المساجين لسماع قصته \"بصقة\" في وجه ابن خاله غيرت حياته وعندما قرر العقال أن يأخذ بثأره ليجد نفسه في السجن وقد صار قاتلا وهناك يفعل العقال ما يراه الجميع مستحيلا عندما يستطيع الهرب ويعود إلى أسيوط يعيش في قريته تحت أنظار رجال الأمن.
