Overview
النبات اسم عام يطلق على 325.000 نوع من الكائنات الحية، أو يزيد، تشكل ما يعرف بالمملكة النباتية، وهي إحدى (المملكتين) الرئيسيتين اللتين تقسم إليهما الكائنات الحية (المملكة الأخرى هي المملكة الحيوانية)، والنبات قد يكون صغيرا إلى حد تتعذر معه رؤيته بالعين المجردة (كالأشنة مثلا) وقد يكون شجرا عملاقا كالسكوية وما إليها. وعلم النبات Botany هو الدراسة العلمية للحياة النباتية، ويعتبر أحد فروع علم الأحياء ويشار له أحيانا بالبيولوجيا النباتية Plant Biology، يغطي علم النبات مجالا واسعا من التوجهات العلمية التي تدرس نمو، تكاثر، استقلاب، تطور الشكل Morphogenesis، علم أمراض النبات Phytopathology، علم البيئة Ecology، علم نشوء النبات. ولهذه الأهمية وضع معجم مصطلحات في علم النبات جمع فيه المؤلف العديد من تلك المصطلحات مع شروح مختصرة لكل مصطلح.
