يقول المؤلف حفظه الله في وصف كتابه، أحسب أن ما في هذا الكتاب يسد حاجة الطالب ويكفيه، شريطة التفهم والتدبر وقد سميته \"الوسيط في المنطق\"، ولاحظت في التسمية أمرين اثنين، الأول أنه كتاب متوسط، لا هو من المتون المختصرة الموجزة ولا هو في عداد المطولات المبسوطات وإنما هو كاسمه، فتكون رتبته في القراءة بعد السلم (المنورق للأخضري) والثاني رجاء أن يكون واسطة طلاب العلم إلى فهم مسائل هذا العلم والوقوف على فوائده ونكته.
