يشتمل هذا الكتاب على ستة عشر فصلا حيث يبدأ بتعريف دقيق للخلية والفروق الرئيسية بين الخلية الحيوانية والخلية النباتية يلى ذلك فصولا أساسية في شرح تركيب ووظائف عضيات الخلية ثم توالت الفصول لشرح عضيات الخلية (الليسوسوم والميتوكوندريا وجهاز جولجي والشبكة الأندروبلازمية) ثم تطرق الكتاب إلى الدراسات التفصيلية لتركيب الغلاف النووي ودوره في تبادل المركبات المختلفة بين النواة والسيتوبلازم قبل أن يبدأ بشرح الكروموسومات وتركيبها الدقيق ومكونات الكروماتين.
