للمسجد الأقصى مكانة كبيرة في قلوب المسلمين، فهو أولى القبلتين، وثالث المسجدين، ومسري النبي \"صلى الله عليه وسلم\" وهو الذي سني لنا رسولنا الكريم \"صلى الله عليه وسلم\" أن نشد الرحال إليه كما في الحديث المشهور، وقد تعرض هذا المسجد الشريف لنكبات عديدة على مدى التاريخ تمثلت في فساد بني إسرائيل ثم احتلال الوثنيين، فالصليبيين، تحت أيدي الصهاينة، وقد قام جهود العلماء لإبقاء هويته إسلامية خالصة، فاليهود، ولا يزال هذا المسجد الجليل أسيرا ومن هذه الجهود، المصنفات النافعة كهذا الكتاب الممتع \"موانح الأنس\" للإمام الدمياطي، الذي ألفه خلال رحلته إلى بيت المقدس في القرن الثاني عشر الهجري، ولسان حاله ينشد:- إلى البيت المقدس قد أتينا... رجاء العفو من رب كريم قطعنا في محبته عقابا... وما بعد العقاب سوى النعيم.
