الكتاب يتعرض لتركيب العديد من الزيزت النباتية والحيوانية والدهون، وكيفية الحصول عليها من مصادرها الأصلية، وخطوات المعالجة من الروائح الغير مرغوب فيها والتي توجد عادة في الزيوت الخام، بالإضافة إلى فصل بسيط عن الزيوت العطرية وأنواعها ومصادرها وطرق استخلاصها، ولما كان الكثير من المركبات الكيميائية لها أسماء صعبة، بل وتزداد صعوبة نطقها عند كتابتها بالعربية لذا فضلت أن تكتب أسماء بعض المركبات الكيميائية باللغة الإنجليزية تسهيلا للقارئ الذي لابد أن يكون له خلفية في الكيمياء حتى يتمكن من استيعاب موضوعات الكتاب ويحصل على أقصى استفادة منه-وهذا الكتاب يعتبر إضافة جديدة للمكتبة العلمية التكنولوجية التطبيقية.
