يعد العنف ظاهرة عالمية أو مرضا استشرى في كتان المجتمع الأمر الذي يدعونا إلى النظر والتأمل في هذه الظاهرة لمعرفة أسبابها ودوافعها، كما تمثل هذه الظاهرة العديد من المجالات مثل مجال علم النفس الاجتماعي والمجال السياسي والمجال القانوني، ونظرا لأن المدرسة جزء لا يتجزأ من المجتمع لا يمكن عزلها عنه فقد تأثرت أيضا بهذه الأحداث وأصبحت تعاني من العنف بين طلابها بشكل غير مسبوق، ويعتبر العنف المدرسي إستجابة غير سوية تهدف إلى إيذاء الآخرين وإلحاق الأذى بهم سواء كان جسديا أو نفسيا كما يظهر العنف المدرسي بطرق مختلفة بين التلاميذ داخل الصفوف وخارجها مما يعمل على إعاقة المدرسة على القيام بالدور المتوقع منها.
