يعتبر التعلم الذاتي أحد الأساليب التعليمية التي تعتمد على جعل عملية التعلم عملية متمركزة حول المتعلم نفسه وليس على المادة التعليمية والتي ظهرت لتوظيف الاستراتيجيات التربوية وأنه يعمل على تنمية قدرة الفرد على أن يعلم نفسه بنفسه دون أن يعتمد على المعلم وأنه يحدد للمتعلم مستوى أداء واضح وحدد ينبغي أن يحققه وفقا لقدراته واستعداداته وقدراته الذاتية.
