هذا الكتاب سورية في التاريخ هو موجز لتاريخ سورية منذ سبعة آلاف عام إلى اليوم. يتضمن المعلومات الأساسية عن سورية منذ أقدم العصور : أي منذ كانت سورية نواة بلاد الشام مرورا بمراحلها الكبرى الإغريقية الهلينية والرومانية والبيزنطية والعربية والصليبية والمغولية والمملوكية والعثمانية، ثم يتوسع بيكار الكتاب منذ نهاية القرن التاسع عشر وبداية القرن العشرين أي المئة عام الأخيرة، فيحكي عن التغلغل الأوروبي الإستعماري، ثم تطور سورية نحو الإستقلال في ظل الإنتداب الفرنسي منذ 1920، ويتحدث عن ظهور الأحزاب الحديثة والتغيير الشامل الذي وقع في نظامها السياسي وهيكليتها الإجتماعية والإقتصادية عبر العقود، وصولا إلى الحرب التي اندلعت عام 2011 حتى 2016.
