إن معجم الشعراء السعوديين وضع فيه المؤلف تراجم مختصرة لكل من وصل إلى علمه إلى تاريخ صدور المعجم بأن لهم دواوين شعر بالفصحى أو قصائد بالفصحى منشورة أو مخطوطة وذلك من خلال اتصالات المؤلف بهم أو بأحد من ذويهم شخصيا أو هاتفيا أو خطيا أو إطلاع المؤلف على بعض مؤلفاتهم أو دواوينهم أو قصائدهم أو ما كتبوا أو ما كتب أو نشر عن أحد منهم ومن بينهم عددا ممن اشتهروا بالعلم ولم يشتهروا بالشعراء مع أن لهم قصائد فريدة بعضها منشور وبعضها مخطوط وقد ذكر المؤلف اسم الشخص ومكان وتاريخ ميلاده وتحصيله العلمي والأعمال التي زاولها وما وصل إلى علمي أو اطلعت عليه من المؤلفات التي ألفها أو حققها أو شارك في ذلك ما صدر منها وما هو تحت الطبع وما هو مخطوط لم يطبع بعد.
