القصيدة \"النونية\" المسماة \"بالشرق والغرب\" في مضمونها الأصلي عند ناظمها أبي الحسن الششتري تدور حول المذهب الصوفي الذي انتهجه والذي هو تركيب وتهذيب لأهم النظريات الصوفية والفلسفية التي عرفتها الثقافة والفكر الإنسانيين وتقدم إشارات قصيرة لكنها دقيقة، لأهم الآراء والأفكار التي أخذ بها ويذكر فيها عددا من الأساتذة والأشياخ، الذين اقتدى بهم والذين كانوا ائمة للمذاهب الصوفية المشهورين في عصره. كـ\"عبد الحق بن سبعين\" و\"محي الدين بن عربي\".
