يضم هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الدراسات لظواهر وموضوعات شعرية من دون أن يلتزم بحدود منهج نقدي معين سوى أن ما يربطها الاهتمام بالنص الشعري وقفت فيه على خمسة موضوعات في الأدب العربي القديم الأول منها يتناول (تقاليد الفروسية وعدتها في الشعر الجاهلي-مقاربة سيميائية) حاول فيه إن اكشف الأنظمة الدلالية والرمزية في نصوص الشعراء الفرسان في محاولة مني لتخطي الثغرات التي واجهت المناهج النقدية التي سبقت المنهج السيميائي من خلال رصد شبكة العلاقات داخل النصوص إستنادا إلى المعايير السيميائية في حين جاء الموضوع الآخر ليدرس (القيم الإنسانية في شعر الصعاليك) هذه الظاهرة التي ولدت بشكل طبيعي لتعبر عن التناقض الكامن في المجتمع العربي.
