تدور أحداث القصة حول سبتيموس وجينا وبيتل الذين الآن يبلغون الرابعة عشرة من عمرهم، إلا أنهم تبوءوا أدوارا أكبر من تلك الأعمار في العالم السحري الخاص بهم. ففي الوقت الذي يصبح بيتل رئيسا للكتبة في دار المخطوطات تتوج جينا ملكة في القريب العاجل ولا يزال سبتيموس يقاتل بقايا السيطرة الشيطانية وهو ما سوف يتواصل حتى يتم تدمير القوة الشريرة للخاتم ذي الوجهين إلى الأبد. ولتحقيق ذلك، يجب إعادة إشعال النار الكيميائية القديمة مرة أخرى وهي المهمة التي تتسبب في لجوء سبتيموس لأصول السحر والفيزياء وذلك بغرض اختبار كل من خبراته وولاءاته للساحرة العظمى مارشا أوفرستراند والكيميائي مارسيلوس باي. وفي هذه الرحلة، يواصل سبتيموس اكتشاف ذاته ويتوسع في قواه ومهارته السحرية.
