يطل مارون عبود من خلال شرفات هذا الكتاب على موضوعات شتى يرمقها بطرف نظرته العابرة ؛ حيث يتناول في هذا الكتاب عددا من المؤلفات الشعرية، والروائع الأدبية والمسرحية التي صاغها شعراء لبنان وأدبائهم، مبينا القيمة الأدبية والفكرية لكل منها. ولم يقتصر مارون عبود على ذكر المؤلفات الخاصة بأبناء الأرز ؛ بل أجال الطرف في أدبيات أقطار أخرى ؛ فذكر أشعارا لنزار قباني وبدر شاكر السياب، كما أثنى على المتنبي باعتباره الأمير المتوج على إمارة الشعر العربي، ونقل للقارئ من خلال نظرته العابرة القيمة الفكرية التي شغلها جمال الدين الأفغاني في جنبات الشرق. ومن يمعن النظر في هذا الكتاب يجد أنه أشبه بمجموعة من المقالات والرسائل الأدبية التي تختزل تاريخا من الأدبيات في بضع نقدات عابرات. وقد وفق الكاتب في تسميته لهذا الكتاب ؛ لأن النقدة تعني النظرة العابرة المختلسة ؛ فما أجمل اختلاس النظرات في دنيا الأدب.
