هذا الكتاب استهدف دراسة قضية عربستان المعاصرة وقد بدأ أن الفترة الزمنية التي تحدد بها هذا الكتاب تحتل فترة حكم الشيخ خزعل وأن ارتكزت واضحا عليه هذه الدراسة فلأنه يمثل القمة التي وصلت إليها إمارة عربستان وهو أعظم شخصية حكمتها كما تمثل نهايته الانحدار العربي السريع في عربستان مما دفع الكاتب لمعرفة آثاره وهذا لم يمنعه من العودة في بعض الأحيان إلى فترات سابقة أو متأخرة قليلا لاستكمال الصورة الناقصة وتوضيح بعض الجوانب الغامضة.
