يتحدث الكتاب عن شخصية الملك فيصل بن عبد العزيز وعصره وإيمانه حيث ان في عام 1964 أصبح فيصل بن عبد العزيز ملك بلد يحوز ربع احتياطيات العالم من البترول ويحتضن في رحابه مكة والمدينة ووصف بأنه أقوى حاكم عربي منذ قرون وبعد ذلك بإحدى عشرة سنة أرداه أحد أبناء أشقائه برصاصة أطلقها على رأسه عن كثب أمام عدسات التلفزيون ويروي أليكسي فاسيليف قصّة قائد متدين وحذر وحازم وجه دفة المملكة العربية السعودية متجاوزا حقل ألغام المشكلات المحلية والعلاقات العربية الداخلية وتراجع النفوذ السوفياتي في الشرق الأوسط وحافظ الملك فيصل على علاقاته مع كل من مصر والولايات المتحدة الأميركية عبر حربين بين العرب وإسرائيل وحظر نفطي فرضه العرب في عام 1973 وشمل العمل البحثي الذي قام به فاسيليف وثائق أصلية ومقابلات أجراها باللغات العربية والروسية والإنكليزية وما أتاح له رؤية فريدة من نوعها لهذه الشخصية الفذة.
