يتحدث الكتاب عن التحديات والتحولات في العالم العربي حيث تعاني المنطقة العربية أزمة بنيوية خانقة، فالصومال مازال دولة ضعيفة بكل المستويات ويزداد وضعها سوءا يوما بعد يوم، والسودان انفصل جنوبه عن شماله ويواجه تداعيات انشقاقات جديدة والحالة العراقية وإن تحسن بعض ملامحها مازالت تعاني مشكلات سياسية وطائفية أما الثورات في مصر وتونس وليبيا فهي لا تعني إطلاقا أنها تمتلك العصا السحرية لتحريك التنمية وتحقيق النمو وتجذير الديمقراطية وأما اليمن فما فتئ يبحث عن حل لأزمته السياسية الداخلية وأما سورية فهي في مأزق نظام حكم، استولت عليه الأيام وأباد خضراءه الهرم وأرهفت السلطوية حده، فهو مايزال يمارس الحل الأمني.
